Basil gets himself stoned and badly beaten, and even then, can't stop with the overthinking. Abaddon rides to the not so reluctant rescue.

( Basil raged. His arms bound above his head, the myriad lacerations of the day opened under the strain and bled. He would always bear the scar across his arm now, stitches ripped, the wound a mouth Abaddon had forever opened in Basil's skin. His feet did not touch the floor. Basil was soiled, sweating with pain, grimed with filth that seemed to seep from his pores. Two masked men demolished him effectively.  )
