Backstory.  Situation surrounding the LaGattan pike that nearly killed Basil.

( The death of so many had a gravity of its own. However they had lived, this was a unanimous agreement on an ending. Abaddon picked his way through a field which threatened to suck him down. He placed his feet with care, but still tripped, still tangled. He could not tell the dead from the dying. Abaddon had been in Diviny when the king gave his orders.
