( It’s not easy, most of the time, but they get by. Sure, their conversations are a jumble of languages—Italian and English mainly, obviously, but Ivan slips into Russian a lot and Alexis keeps vainly trying to teach the lot of them some French—and for a variety of reasons they never have any deep or meaningful or whatever conversations, but that’s fine and it works well enough. )
