[7-Mar-2007] [Silent Hill 4] Walking Memory

Title: Walking Memory
Day/Theme: March 7. you impersonate a person better than a zombie should
Series: Silent Hill 4
Characters: Walter & Cynthia
Rating: PG-13

Walter is sitting on a flight of stairs when he sees her, walking along a dark corridor, hips swaying and dark hair shimmering. Her skin is unnatural, her skin is dead, but he doesn’t see it. He only sees her, beautiful like he remembers, an example of the pure sexuality that he himself has never experienced. Even now, dead and only pretending to be human, she encompasses the kind of ethereal beauty she’d had in life.

Her eyes are dead, he wonders if she even has eyes now. The blood is still caked upon her flesh, the wounds are still there, and he remembers how it felt against his hands, against his face as he thrust the knife in and out, penetrating her in ways no other man could, tearing her life away piece by piece until she went still, exhausted and in extraordinary pain.

And he has to admit, of all his murders, of all the sacrifices, she had been the one he’d taken the most joy in. Hurting her, making her feel like she once made him feel, helpless, defeated and cold, had brought him to bliss. These deaths bring him joy he never expected to feel. He still remembers weeping while the police dragged him away after the children died, remembers being afraid and alone and staring at his own blood-soaked hands with fear, but now his loneliness is waning. He will be with mother soon.

Cynthia sees him, but she doesn’t approach him, and he doesn’t approach her. He simply relishes in this walking memory of her murder, at peace with his insanity, and the blood on his hands no longer frightens him.
