[February 22] [Kingdom Hearts] Post

Title: Post
Day/Theme: February 22 / a ribbon around her throat
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Character/Pairing: Kairi
Rating: PG
Spoiler Warnings: Spoilers for the end of KH1.

She bides her time. She returns, with eyes turned down and a promise on the tip of her tongue, and becomes the mayor’s makeshift daughter again. She takes care of herself, brushes her hair every morning ‘til it shines, occupies herself elsewhere and anywhere.

She likes to hone her drawing skills and climb trees. She makes little boats of wood, attaches ragged sails to them, and lets them out into the water, into forever.

She doesn’t cry. She hasn’t since she’s come back (and since he’s left, and since he was locked away). Way back when, when they used to dream of other places and being together forever, she would cry and never hold back, and they’d both be there to dry her cheeks and make faces at her and cause her to smile once more.

Kairi looks at her reflection one day when she’s bending over to release another boat. She notices how much she’s changed in the last few forevers. Her hair has gotten longer. Her arms are lanky and thin. Her chest has filled out. Her clothes no longer fit right.

Her eyes have deepened too. They shine as if the tears she’s left unshed still remain to make them glisten, and she shivers in realization of how much is different.

Time’s gone on, and it’s pulled her into its inescapable tide.

Time’s gone on, but she draws and climbs trees and releases little fleets of boats.

She copes and she lives, and she believes they’ll come back.
