The red line of the ribbon around her neck is a splash of colour, as individual and inappropriate as the length of her robe.
"You're an individual," her father had snapped at her. "I made you as one. Try to look like it."
She would have preferred to be anonymous as any other piece of equipment, but it was her father's order.
As she studies the records of that day at the Execution Scaffold, she remembers Aizen Sousuke's fingers hooked into the collar around Kuchiki Rukia's neck.
She wonders what it would feel like to matter that much to anyone.
