The dream is always the same... the saw, cutting through with a jagged shake. And he is awake, looking at the faceless doctor and sometimes he feels the pain. But that's not the important part, it's that table covered with blood and powdered bone and the remnants of his own leg. All the doctors and nurses are gone because he isn't whole and doesn't matter anymore, and he throws himself off the table and crawls away.
And it's funny, when he wakes up, that it really isn't a hell of a lot of consolation that his leg is still there.
