[Feb 20] [Transformers: Beast Machines] Sparkstrain Part Seventeen

Title: Sparkstrain Part Seventeen
Day/Theme: Feb 20 / the false man
Series: Transformers: Beast Machines
Characters: Noble-Savage, Nightscream
Rating: PG

"I know we've only known each other a stellar cycle," the indigo wolf said in his gentle voice, "But please, trust me. I feel I need to roam tonight."

"I don't know if it's a good idea. The monkey doesn't want us to stray, even if Megs is out of business." Nightscream pushed aside the lock of hair dangling over his face. "There's plenty of time to wander later. We could really use another opinion on where the sparks could be."

"I...don't know how much help I can be. I don't know about actual locations. I only remember wandering...and...having Savage be in control far too often." Noble clutched his head between his hands, ears drooping.

Nightscream touched Noble's arm in reassurance. "Don't think about it. We'll work on it so you don't have to worry about Savage anymore."

Noble smiled at the young mech's earnest look. "Thank you, my friend. Still, as much as I don't want to go against Optimus' wishes, something is calling me out there."

"Well, how about if I go with you? Then at least it won't be only you getting in trouble."

Noble chuckled. "You don't have to do that for me."

Nightscream grinned. "Yeah, but what else are friends for?"

Noble nodded and smiled weakly, but then glanced with longing at the cavern ceiling. Nightscream watched, wishing he could think of a word of consolation. "I'm gonna check in with Optimus and see if he wants us to do anything yet. I'll let you know."

"Certainly." The indigo wolf nodded again, settling down in a cross-legged position. He watched as Nightscream winged his way off to the main chamber. Then he willed Savage to the surface. His roar filled the cavern.

Nightscream turned as it reached his ears. "Noble! No!" He started to fly back the way he had come but knew he would be too late to stop Savage from leaving -- not that he could be stopped at all if he didn't want to be.

Savage flew the entire way to the surface before turning back into Noble. He preferred to fly because it befitted him more than the ground-boung canine form, but the quadruped had the advantage of better stealth. He dashed through the streets, leaping from one level of overpasses to another, climbing effortlessly over rubble and heading inexorably toward the citadel.

Much to his frustration Nightscream found him before he found a way in. As the bat approached, Noble threw back his head and howled, then staggered backward, casting a startled look at Nightscream. "He brought me here -- Savage -- and I thought...I thought there might be some kind of answer here." He lowered his head. "I'm sorry."

"It's all right." Nightscream settled on the ground, tilting his head to gaze up the height of the citadel. "Seems like everybody's always after this place. Maybe there is something inside, but...I don't think we should try to get in right now."

Noble emitted a whine. "Maybe you're right. I don't have much power on my own. I don't even know what I would do if I got in there -- nor what Savage would do," he quickly added.

Nightscream continued to regard the citadel, wondering if some of his own answers were in there. He was very tempted to break in right then, but he would get lecture enough from Primal for running after Noble; and they would be in even worse trouble if they made the attempt to get in.
