[Feb. 17, 2007][Original] Curse the Water Mirror!

Title: Curse the Water Mirror!
Day/Theme: Feb. 17, 2007 spirits in the water
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Xalinn
Rating: PG

A flash of light caught Xalinn's eye and he gazed into his mother's water mirror. There seemed to be nothing there- just plain, everyday water in a metal bowl. He scowled at the simple device the red sorceress used daily to peer into the affairs of Gayardo, the peasant king. He could not remember a day in his life when his mother had not devoted at least an hour of her day into enchanting and gazing into the water. If she let him, he could see things in the bowl, but if she did not will him to, there was nothing before him but a bowl of water. Aeria told him that if he could get in touch with his inner magic, he would be able to do it himself, but then she had scoffed at his lack of magical ability and said she was sure that would never happen.

He clenched his fists tight. His mother made him so angry sometimes! Who said he even wanted to do magic?! He was a knight! What did he need magic for?! It was a useless heritage!

Xalinn loosened his fists and crossed his arms tightly across his red surcoat. Who was Mother to order him around?! "Wait at home and keep quiet," she had instructed. He'd do no such thing. He kicked the silver bowl, sending it flying across the roomm, spattering water along the way. It hit the wall and clattered to the floor.

He let his arms drop and his expression lightened. He felt a lot better. Wondering where would be an interesting place to go so he would not be home when his mother returned, Xalinn shuffled slowly out the door.
