[Feb 17] [G1 Transformers] Sparkstrain Part Fourteen
Title: Sparkstrain Part Fourteen
Day/Theme: Feb 17 / Spirits in the water
Series: G1 Transformers
Characters: Bumblebee, Broadside, Sea Spray, two mystery guests
Rating: G
Note: Parts 11, 12, and 13 got lost in the last few days of LJ not working and not having enough time. I plan on compiling this all in order when the month's over hence why this is part fourteen.
"Wind speed forty-two and picking up!" Bumblebee yelled over the noise of the waves. Sea Spray, skimming over those waves below the edge of Broadside's deck, didn't seem to mind.
"What are we doing out in this insanity again?" Broadside asked over an internal comm link to both minibots, amused though he was at Bumblebee's attempts to communicate out loud.
"An unuuusual siiighting in the Atlaaanntic nearrrr the Berrrmuda Trrrriangle," Sea Spray gurgled in response.
Broadside scoffed, "When is there not something unusual near the Bermuda Triangle?"
"How much farther?" Bumblebee cut in. "I can't see a darn thing in this fog!"
"Huh. Wasn't any fog in the weather reports," Broadside said, slowing down. "Not that it makes much difference with the rain."
"I guuuess we hit ourrrrr tarrrget locccation."
"Hope so. The readings on my instruments are fluctuating so I don't know how much farther we should go." The aircraft carrier slowed further and Bumblebee began scrutinizing the water.
Nodding even though no one else could see, the yellow minibot steeled himself. "You ready, Sea Spray?"
"Anytimmme."
"Then here I go!" With one last look at the solid deck behind him, Bumblebee jumped off and dove into the water. A few moments later Sea Spray, in robot mode, joined him and they headed downward in a flurry of bubbles.
"Hmmmm..." Sea Spray looked around with a critical gaze. "Strrrangge lack of sea life. I sawww morrre on the way herrre but I juuust nnnow nnnoticed how emmmpty it is."
"Maybe they know something we don't. But it's too late to ask 'em now."
They descended several more feet before Bumblebee activated a powerful, wide-beam light installed in his arm for the occasion. He immediately jerked it to his right. "Whoa! What was that?!"
"Whaaat was whaaat?"
"I thought I saw something shiny and red...and purple."
"I cann't think of anythinggg with those colorrrs at thhhis depth but who knnnows out herrre. It couldd be possiblllle."
"Let's keep looking. Even though I'm not sure what exactly we should be looking for -- aside from that." Bumblebee played the light over the remains of a sunken ship. He drifted to a halt as the beam fell over the hole in the ship's side. "What could have done that?"
He glanced over at Sea Spray, who jetted closer and ran a hand along the bottom edge of the hole. Bumblebee also used his additional thrusters to move in to look when he received no answer. He reached a hand out to touch the side of the ship, too, unable to believe his optics. "Are those some kind of claws marks? They seem too small to cause this damage."
Before Sea Spray could offer a theory, Broadside's voice came over the comm. "You guys might want to either head topside or take cover. I need to move. There's a waterspout on its way."
Bumblebee instinctively shined the light upward but it didn't cut far enough through the water to see the triple-changer's underside. "I think we're far enough out of range. Get to safety and we'll catch up to you later."
"Bumblllllebeeee," Sea Spray interrupted with urgency in his gurgle, "I donnn't think we'rrrre out of rrrrange." He pointed in a direction beyond the fore of the ship. A swirl of movement was running through the water and appeared to be bearing right toward them. Not knowing what else to do, they darted through the hole in the ship even though there was zero guarantee it would even protect them.
The whirling slowed but continued, tearing up rocks and kelp. The ship creaked ominously and Bumblebee imagined it lurched slightly as if pulled toward the disturbance. He saw red, purple, silver, cyan, yellow. The colors resolved themselves into shapes. A manta ray and a crab locked in a duel. He was about to ask Sea Spray if that was normal behavior when he heard the very familiar shift of gears and metal plating. Before their very optics the warring beasts transformed. The change didn't slow their wrestling match. If anything, the water churned more violently with the aggressive energy.
This time Bumblebee was certain the ship moved and it creaked more loudly, too. He pointed upward and turned to the hole. But just then the combatants passed close and a piece to the left was sheared off the hull. Bumblebee backpedaled and traded horrified looks with Sea Spray. They could just as easily be torn apart. But who were those Transformers? Bumblebee didn't recall any such mechs with animal modes like those. And when he stopped to think for a moment, they had appeared rather small...
The whirlwind of battle passed near again and he tried to get a better look at them.
Instead he found himself looking through them.
Again he glanced at Sea Spray, who returned his "Did you see what I saw?" look. Not wasting another moment they jetted to the hole and slipped out, heading full speed for the surface.

"What was down there?" Broadside demanded when they found him again a few miles from the point they had parted. The two minibots sat on his deck shivering and dazed.
"G-Ghosts," Bumblebee managed. "The humans say the Triangle is haunted, and it is..."
