That was what the two of them told me. The woman in blue and the man in grey.
Wishing on a candle, she said. It opens doors in time and space. People came to pray in the hospital chapel, and when they lit their candles here . . . that was why so many patients had survived, she said. The things shared their lives. They could come through as long as the people lived.
You know what that means, he said.
Of course, she said.
As the candles went out, I heard the screaming start.
