Matsumoto dreams in flashback. She dreams because it’s only when she does that she can reach out to the boy she used to know, the one that smiled at her and used to care.
She dreams because in dreams, he does care, and together they can live life as it should be, with him and her and all of Rukongai at their feet.
She dreams because it’s nice to remember.
It’s only when she wakes up that she realizes she’s hung over and barely lucid and that memories can heal but they can also rip apart.
