They have no hearts. Kagura makes sure of that. She goes from body to body and places a hand over every chest; each one glows, and then the forms are hers.
It’s empty work, extracting hearts from those that are dead, despite that she, alive from the start, has no heart of her own to speak of.
She finds the irony and harrumphs, snapping her fan. The wolf demon should be here soon. Good. She needs someone to fight.
She spares a look toward a lonely body, the face of which has been hacked apart by her wind blades.
At one time this was a thinking, moving, breathing creature that had lived on its own and on its own will.
He has no heart now, but Kagura still manages to envy a corpse.
