[Feb 6] [Transformers: Beast Wars] Sparkstrain Part Eight

Title: Sparkstrain Part Eight
Day/Theme: Feb 6 / The spell that cannot be broken
Series: Transformers: Beast Wars
Characters: Rampage, TM2 Dinobot, Depth Charge
Rating: PG-13 (Rampage = posterboy for cruelty to wildlife)

Rampage stared at the white Transmetal II who held part of his spark. He despised this Dinobot and loathed Megatron for enslaving him not just in the first place, but also by tying him to this so-called "brother". As if an illusion to the concept of family meant anything to him. He felt tainted by this link even though it only meant Dinobot could stop him in his tracks by taking out his share of the spark and threatening to crush it. Meanwhile, Dinobot reaped the benefits of a nigh-indestructible spark that healed its shell.

The triple-changer crab uttered unintelligible noises to express his displeasure. No one paid any attention to him. Tarantulus and Megatron were discussing something -- and cackling about it -- while Quickstrike was having a whining contest with Waspinator. Rampage clacked his claws. Every last one of them disgusted him. At one point he had almost begun to appreciate Tarantulus' sense of cruelty but something about the spider made him want to avoid him. Not out of fear, of course, but just a sense of...something.

Fed up with waiting for someone to do some decisive action, Rampage turned and headed into the hall to get out of the base. Dinobot watched, his laser optic focusing on the crab then off. He worked his jaw thoughtfully, glancing to Megatron then the hall. With a drawn out snarl he made his decision and followed Rampage.

As usual Rampage left dry land behind and went straight to the shore. He picked amongst the rocks for small creatures to crush, although it wasn't as fun as torturing larger species. These little organic creatures didn't last long enough for their fear and pain to register to him. He much preferred the sport of Maximals; their goody-good natures sweetened the mix.

He straightened abruptly as he caught a brief sound. He saw a small crab skitter off to the right as he whipped around, cannon coming to hand. Nothing was there but he kept the weapon at the ready. "Come out, come out, whoever you are..." he called in a taunting voice. "Trying to sneak up on me will do you little good..."

Sudden pain shot throughout his body, driving him to his knees. He kept hold on his cannon nonetheless. "Well...that answers...the who..." He growled and forced one foot back underneath him.

Dinobot came around the ridge, letting go of his spark and allowing it to drift back inside its casement. "You are wandering off without Megatron's permission again."

"It's good to know you can perceive the obvious, clone."

Dinobot growled. "You owe your life to Megatron. If not for him, you would be floating around as...space debris."

Rampage flexed his free hand. "I owe that pompous lizard nothing but a tortuous death at my hands."

The Transmetal raptor snarled. "And what would you fight for, if not the Predacons?"

"Are you asking if I have a cause? What fool ideas go through that recycled processor of yours? I don't fight for anything. I just like to cause everyone else torment!" He threw back his head and laughed.

Dinobot was unphased. "But you don't seem to like to...receive it." He exposed his spark once more.

"Nothing but a trifle as far as I'm concerned." Rampage watched, optics narrowed. "But you dish it out without a second thought. Not much different than I, are you? Megatron's cause doesn't mean anything and you know it." Dinobot snarled again but covered the spark. A staring contest ensued until Rampage tilted his head and uttered a smug, "Hmph." Then, chuckling, he transformed to beast mode and walked into the water. As he sank, he murmured, "Follow me again, if you dare."

Naurally, Dinobot remained where he was, running the conversation through his processor again. Yet it was only a matter of time until someone took up Rampage's challenge. It happened to turn out to be a matter of twenty minutes and forty feet of water later. As he was sitting idly clipping kelp a pair of missiles slammed into the sand to either side of him. He ripped up one last strand of greenery then twisted around. "Right on schedule. You can set a chronometer by him." He laughed and transformed, raising his arms to meet the next attack bare-handed.

"Got you now, creep!" Depth Charge came darting in at him in beast mode.

"Come now, Fins, tell me how you really feel!" Rampage dodged to the side and then grabbed the Maximal by the tail, eliciting an outraged cry. Rampage pulled against both Depth Charge's sweeping of his wings and the resistance of the water itself. After a moment he simply let go and Depth Charge shot forward. The Maximal narrowly avoided a huge rock. Rampage laughed again and transformed back to beast mode. "Why don't you and I have some fun, old friend? I'm bored today and you probably need your exercise!"

Depth Charge recovered from the abrupt upward swim he'd had to make and circled around. "Keep talking, X. I'm reloading."

Something crawled over Depth Charge's arm. He felt the water lapping at his partially submerged legs as well as the sand clogging his forward intakes. He lifted his head. A tiny crab was walking along the top of his arm -- the part not buried in the sand. "Insult to injury," he muttered. He lifted his arm and shook the thing off. He ran an internal diagnostic.

He'd be able to make it to the base to get repairs.

He grunted and pushed himself up. His left wing gave off a burst of sparks in protest. He glared at it then staggered his way up the beach. His computer beeped.

"Alert: Protoform X still functional."

Dinobot glanced from Rampage to the Maximal cursing on the beach below the cliff where they stood. "Why do you not simply finish him once and for all?"

Rampage didn't deign to look at him. "Where's the fun in that? The longer he lives, the more painful it will be for him!"
