[Feb 5] [Transformers: Beast Machines] Sparkstrain Part Seven
Title: Sparkstrain Part Seven
Day/Theme: Feb 5 / The golden apple
Series: Transformers: Beast Machines
Characters: Cheetor, Optimus Primal
Rating: PG
Notes: As far as I can tell, this is going to continue hopping back and forth between the two series and all timeline points inbetween during the course of this month. (I think I've created a monster. I initially hadn't intended to go past part 3. XD )
Cheetor lashed his tail as he stood at the end of the walkway leading to the Oracle. Optimus sat silent and calm in the usual spot, communing away. Cheetor wasn't sure what to make of things at the moment. He did wonder what it was the Oracle was showing Optimus -- and why it wouldn't save a step and show all of them. It would do wonders for unifying the team. The situation had pushed the four of them to their limits, and while he was glad to have Nightscream's added help, the young mech needed to be tempered. His disparaging comments did nothing for morale, except maybe his own.
And everyone used to call me the 'kid'. Guess it only sticks for as long as you're the youngest in the party. Not that I want to be considered a kid anymore. He flexed his claws, eying his purple spots. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss those days. While I don't miss my screw-ups, I miss the adventure we were having...even though the future depended on us. Ironic that we spent so much time safeguarding our Autobot ancestors right there on Earth only to have to protect Cybertron all over again in our own time.
He chuckled briefly. It's tough being the heroes all the time...and no one else even knew we were. He felt a little like his old self just then, and swished his tail lazily at the memories. Then his gaze fell on Optimus and the moment passed.
Optimus was staring at him.
Cheetor blinked, sudden wariness coming over him. "Something wrong, Big bot?"
"I'm...not sure..."
Cheetor was beginning to dread hearing that response from him.
"What do you recall about Vector Sigma?"
"Probably not enough to understand what you're about to say."
Optimus sighed and lowered his head. "Right..." He remained that way, not continuing.
Cheetor watched and waited. "Optimus -- what did you see?"
"I wasn't shown all of it, so I don't know for certain. The vision cut off in the middle of everything and went into a loop."
"So...what happened before it looped?" When Optimus hesitated, Cheetor got up and stalked toward him. "You don't have to keep these visions to yourself, you know. Discussing them with someone else might help the puzzles you keep getting left with."
"They aren't puzzles, they're the truth! I know that much!"
Cheetor drew up short at the burst of anger. He felt his own begin to rise. "How can you be so certain? Seeing as you're usually also left waiting for another piece to be revealed. How much of the truth have you really been shown?"
"Are you suggesting that the Oracle could be giving me selective information?" Optimus sounded more intrigued than accusatory.
"Can we possibly know if it is or isn't? We still have our instincts we can use. They worked fine before."
Optimus frowned. "They weren't enough. The Oracle provides the edge I need to get one step ahead of Megatron."
Cheetor regarded him for a moment, then looked past him. "I hope you're right."
"We are in the right, that is why the Oracle speaks to me."
Cheetor focused on him again but didn't speak.
