[February 2] [Bleach] Tremolo Before the Fall
Title: Tremolo Before the Fall
Day/Theme: February 2 / three seeds
Series: Bleach
Character/Pairing: Gin, Kira, Hinamori, Shuuhei, Tousen, Aizen
Rating: Very mild PG
Spoiler Warnings: Up to the end of the Soul Society arc.
“Still regrettin’ that fight, eh, Izuru?”
Kira shivered in the corner of the room, trying to ignore the dried blood that coated both the walls and the insides of his fingernails. He shook from the cold of the ice that still rimmed his eyelashes, and from the recollection of what he’d done to someone so dear, so close, so…
“I can save her, if ya want.”
Kira knew he shouldn’t look at his captain. One glance at that smile, at that face he trusted but knew, somehow, that he shouldn’t, and he would find himself believing.
“Y… Ichimaru-taichou, you can help Hi… Hinamo—”
Ichimaru laughed somewhere above him.
“I can do that, Izuru…”
The sentence hung, and there was that grin.
“…if’n ya do somethin’ for me first.”
~
Her eyelids felt heavy, but she snapped them open regardless, breathing heavily and trying to rub the tears out of her eyes. Her vision blurred then cleared, and she wasted no time lifting her back from the bed and drawing the blanket off of her.
Hitsugaya-kun… Ichimaru-taichou… you…
She felt some pressure in the back of her head and she wobbled, barely managing to keep her seat. Her hands moved on their own accord, reaching in through the folds of her clothing, drawing out a moist piece of paper.
She smoothed the creases out of it and breathed.
Aizen-taichou…
The pressure rose up and away; her vision sharpened; and she tightened her grip as she analyzed the spell that held the door closed.
~
It was quiet in the division. The new recruits had stopped clamoring and panicking about Aizen’s death, the other seated officers were quietly supervising and helping out with the paperwork, and Shuuhei, while he felt some prickle of foreboding somewhere in his chest, was complacent. He signed off on a piece of paper, stoic, though his eyes showed the faintest glimmer of boredom.
“Hisagi.”
Shuuhei looked up in time to see his captain rise and move toward the door.
“What is it, Tousen-taichou?”
Blind eyes turned toward Shuuhei’s voice.
“I’ll be stepping out for a while. Please look after things in the division.”
“Ah.” Was this the foreboding Shuuhei had been feeling? His captain had been leaving without explanation more and more frequently, and while Shuuhei wanted to ask him why, he knew that it was scarcely his place to do so. His captain’s matters were his captain’s matters, after all, and Shuuhei had no right to intervene.
The fabric of the captain’s cloak rustled behind Tousen.
“Take care, taichou.”
~
“He’s agreed to play decoy?”
“Aa. He’s a good boy.”
“And I take it that all is quiet in your division.”
“Yes, Aizen-taichou.”
“Good. Hinamori-kun should be on her way now.”
The door to Central 46 slid open. A bit of light bounced off two pieces of glass before the door closed once more.
“The time is near. Let us go.”
