[Jan 17] [Gundam X] Mind Echo Part One

Title: Mind Echo Part One
Day/Theme: Jan 17 / He went down the well
Series: Gundam X
Characters: Olba Frost, misc extras
Rating: PG
Notes: This is broken up into four parts for four day's worth of themes. I'm taking liberties with the ages of the Frost brothers. They sure as heck don't look the same age.

He keenly felt the emptiness in his head the very second he awoke. Something that had always been there, from the moment he first drew breath at birth -- perhaps earlier, for all he could remember -- and now it was so obviously missing. Bits and pieces of the events came back to him. Ashtaron and Virsago had been engulfed in a blast when they and the Double X fired upon each other, two massive blasts created by the satellite canon system. It had been a risky move, and both he and his brother had still been in shock over the fact the Double X had been able to access the satellite. It shouldn't have been able to, they should have had complete control over it.

He had tried to deny it even as the concussive backlash rushed over them. He had felt Ashtaron buck backward, the warning system announcing that the bottom armor was being melted off. Everything was bright light and persistent alarms...and Shagia screaming in his head.

"Nii-san," he whimpered aloud. "N-Nii-san..." He tried to focus inward, a difficult concept when something had been second nature before. Nii-san, where are you? I can't hear you. Where are you?"

Nothing but the same gaping emptiness. He tried again to mentally grasp it, reaching out with his hand as if to physically grab a slipping thread. His hand, and mind, closed on nothing. "NII-SAN!!"

He continued to scream until a nurse rushed in and hastily administered a sedative. He jerked around, trying to resist. He didn't want anyone touching him unless it was the steadying hand of his brother. "Where is he?! Where is he?!" Olba cried out, opening his eyes to stare past the nurse toward the door, reaching his hand out again and waiting for Shagia to walk by. If he couldn't hear him, he at least wanted to see him. He fell unconscious before any such illusion could appear.

The government had labeled them as "Category F" Newtypes. "F" for failure, as far as the treatment they received after that declaration went. But they knew better. They had something normal people didn't. They also had their wits, their technical skills, and Shagia's sauve persuasion to help them get everything they needed for their own plans. The government, and the world, would not be able to dismiss them so casually. They pretended to cooperate the entire time and won their way amongst various ranks. Everyone was completely unsuspecting what their motives ultimately were.

And it would have worked if not for the dumb luck and interference of one punk who wasn't even anything special. Just a kid with gumption. Garrod Ran had not deserved that important gundam he found. And he shouldn't have been able to use the satellite system at that key moment.

Olba imagined he could feel the drugs in his bloodstream, flowing around and preventing him from moving freely. He felt like every motion was made while pushing through some thick liquid; water would have been too generous a comparison. He was awake again, not dreaming. That much registered. He thought someone else might be in the room.

"N-Nii-san?" His voice came out as a dry whisper but he found there was little moisture to be had in his mouth. He struggled to cough.

"Easy. Just keep calm." It was a woman's voice. He didn't know her. She came into view holding a cup, and he saw it was a nurse. He remembered there had been one around before but couldn't remember if this was the same one. He thought he should have been fighting the treatment; however, he allowed her to help him drink.

He was able to clear his throat afterward. "Where is he..?" He vaguely realized she was pushing him back against the pillow. "...Where..."

"Just rest for now."

"No. I..n-need to..."

"You need to rest." Her voice was stern, like giving an order.

He hated taking other people's orders if they didn't fit with his own agenda. "Where is he? WHERE?!"

"He who?"

"My brother! Where is Shagia?!"

The nurse pressed her lips shut. She glanced toward something by the door, then looked at him with a neutral expression. "Not here...now please, just rest. I don't want to give you a stronger dose."

He tried to think of all the various levels of meaning 'not here' could have. He choked back his panic. If he wanted to find out for certain, he would have to once again play along but secretly do things his way. If only his head was clearer and he could assess his resources.
