Title: Career Choice
Day/Theme: Jan 15 / The doctor isn't here

Sally sat down with a long sigh in the lounge of the Peacemillion. She had a coffee cup with her but set it down and left it untouched for a while. She stared out of the window at the stars beyond, her mind going over all plans and maneuvers from the last three days. Something needed to change. She sighed again and put her elbows on the table, cradling her head between her hands.
"There you are," Noin said as she entered the room, a tray of food in her hands. She slid the tray onto the table, glancing at Sally's coffee. "Is that all you're having?"
"When you've worked as many shifts in a hospital as I have, you learn to live off it."
"I would think as a doctor you would know better."
"I'm not really a doctor anymore."
Noin chuckled. "None of us are what we once were."
Sally looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "You're still a fighter, Noin. I may have been a military doctor, but it was still to heal soldiers. I became a guerilla rebel, now I'm helping with battle plans for what seems to be an impossibly small force."
"But it's the force we believe in, and that's what counts." She waved her spoon for emphasis then dug into her food.
Sally sat back, folding her arms over her chest. "It's the side that has to win. I don't want the world to fall into the hands of OZ or White Fang."
"So when it is decided, what will you do when it's over? Return to being a doctor?"
Sally gave pause at the abrupt topic leap. "Probably not. I don't think I could, knowing there's a universe to protect from itself."
