[5 Dec][Devil Summoner]Cha-cha-cha!
Title: Cha-cha-cha!
Day/Theme: Close to You/ ~ 라디오에선 네기 좋하던 그 노래~ (The radio plays that song you like)
Series: Devil Summoner
Character/Pairing: Tae, Narumi, Raidou
Rating: G
Notes: Pre-game fic
It took two to tango, a cliche that was unfortunately true, which was why Tae came banging on the agency door exactly at nine in the morning.
"Whaddaya want?" Narumi demanded, not very graciously, clinging to the doorknob for support. His normally neat attire was a mess -- grime on the white sleeves and streaks of mysterious gloop on the length of his pants, and bags under his eyes.
"You look horrible and disgusting," Tae hissed with cat-like offense, perky nose wrinkling. "Did you fall into a drain or something? Oooh, a case came up, didn't it? Was it an important one? Or was it a missing pet?"
"...Go away please," Narumi requested, with no real hope of prevailing against the invader. Tae was full of girl-reporter vim and sizzle, and a quick shove to the door sent Narumi staggering backward and the way clear.
"That's okay, I knew I couldn't count on you," she announced disdainfully, heels clicking a rapid tattoo. "Kuzunoha-kuuuun! I've a favour to ask!"
Narumi's new assistant managed to look much neater than his employer, because he was wearing black. He was also carrying a pot of steaming tea, a pair of cups and the faintest flicker of wariness. His pet cat bounded past her to perch on the window sill, uncurling in the morning sun.
"I need an escort to Kyogo Ashita's party tomorrow night," she explained. "It's the perfect opportunity to snoop about his mansion for some serious dirt on that black market smuggling dealings of his. A girl can't go alone, after all -- and I might need a strong young man to fend off the riff raff if anything happens."
Kuzunoha-kun flicked a quick look at Narumi over her shoulder then back to her. "I can't dance."
"That's okay!" said Tae quickly. "I can't do it very well either. But plenty of young men are so shy these days -- all they seem to want to do is prop themselves against the wall and drink like fish." Her voice came out a little high at the end, but there was a lowly voiced "ow" in the background.
"...Narumi can dance," said Raidou mildly. "I'll get the radio."
The door swung shut behind him almost immediately, and Tae whirled around. Narumi looked mostly bemused, dabbing at the spilt tea down his vest.
"I'll pay," Tae said quickly.
"...I'll just wash up and be back directly," Narumi replied, and dipped her a low bow.
The cat at the window purred like he was laughing.
***
"And a one-two-three, one-two-OWOWOW, your feet are killer weapons of OWWWWW!"
Tae stole a quick look at Raidou as Narumi hopped about, clutching his abused shin. His back to them, spine perfectly straight, he was apparently pecking out a client's report with great industry. Even so, the the nearly perfect line of his shoulders looked like he was laughing silently inside.
***
Things never really quite went according to plan, another cliche that Tae could learn to hate. She had to kick off her pretty new heels in order to run, her dress was torn and her handkerchief was turning a slow dull red where it was knotted around Narumi's arm.
They skittered into an alleyway and a sob escaped her before she could stop it. "Why'd you pick a dead-end?" she hissed at Narumi, then snatched up a broken bottle, ready to fight to the very end.
"Because," Narumi wheezed and pointed up just as Ashita's goons sprinted round the corner.
Above them, Raidou Kuzunoha leapt right off the wall like a black cat, landing right in the middle of the men. He used his sheathed katana like a club -- a gun went clattering, and soon the goons were slumped on the ground.
"Oh," said Tae.
***
"So what is it this time?" Narumi demanded irritably when she showed up at their door again. Besides, she hadn't refunded him the money for the jacket.
"For a dance," Tae said primly, and then did a quick twirl. The new skirt flared up over her knees, and Narumi leaned forward abruptly. "I didn't get much a chance to show you how far I'd progressed."
In the corner, Raidou twiddled the radio to life.
