The Coronation
A dark, sullen figure knelt before the throne. The nameless slave took the fairies’ crown, took the crown from Lucifer, took the crown of north England, turned to face his audiences. The poor and the privileged alike looked upon the youth, more Raven than Man. Some would tell the tale years later and recall wings spreading from his back; others simply a raven alighting on the throne. Before the silver crowns touched his dark brow, they felt royal bondage and allegiance grip their hearts. An old prophecy ended and began anew. Already king, he crowned himself and did not smile.
