[Nov. 29, 2006][Original] A Man of the Land and a Man of the Sky
Title: A Man of the Land and a Man of the Sky
Day/Theme: Nov. 29, 2006 the heart breaks and breaks and lives by breaking
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Mercutio and Martino Rabosler
Rating: G
I wrote sort of differently, which was fun!
"Minor or major, from tragedy to tragedy- such is life!" declared an anonymous poet. Little did he realize how well and verily he spoke concerning the matters of the younger Lord Rabosler of his day. Though he had grown like a baby bird chirping in his father's nest, in due time differences of opinion had arisen and he had flown forth to more perilous climes. Ever after he had sought to distance his mind from that of his father, soaring through the clouds and averting his gaze from earthly matters of business or politics.
The elder Lord Rabosler looked to the skies in hopes of catching sight of his vanished son, but spoke of him no more in his dealings with those of import. Mercutio was to him as one wandered far astray- to speak overly of him would be only to invite sorrow. His mind was full yet his heart was empty.
Living a strange existence above the dwellings of earth-bound folk, the dark orbs of the young lord darted over the rooftops. He was one much admired and respected in the other world of yon skies. Indeed, it was this very skill with kites and their kin, as well as his light-hearted nature, that led to his being sought out among the many for advice on such heavenly pastimes. Kindly he passed on what small knowledge he possessed and this willingness to part with what things he had learned brought him once again to his father's attention.
They met again as foes and both quivered at the sight of the other as an opponent. Had not Martino once clutched this tiny child to his chest and nursed him through his weakness? Had not Mercutio loved his father at all times and thought of him daily even after he took flight? To part had broken hearts enough and to meet like this did break the heart again.
Those who stood at the young lord's side had never known and as his descent came to light they gaped in awe. How brave these men who did not cry or fall into the embrace of each other's arms!
