[Nov. 18, 2006][Suikoden] Economic Success

Title: Economic Success
Day/Theme: Nov. 18 bergamot and vetiver
Series: Suikoden IV, Tactics
Character/Pairing: Chiepoo, Salla, Keneth
Rating: G

Chiepoo's company grew over the years into something well-admired in the merchant world. For such humble beginnings, the Nay-Kobold had gone on to do quite well. He handled exotic goods from bergamot to acerola and from vetiver to cayenne pepper. Of course, his ritzy shops had not stopped catering to the lower income part of society. He still stocked simple medicine, boots, and tuna buns among other things. A good partnership with Kyril had eliminated the fierce competition of X and Co., while Ramada worked with, not against, his business.

Chiepoo grew somewhat fat from the rich food paid for by his successful operation. He mainly worked out of his store on the once deserted island, but he did make voyages out to open new branches. He was always glad to give a word or two of encouragement to young entrepreneurs. When Nalkul, Noah, and Champo ran into some funding difficulties while trying to work in the former Kooluk region, Chiepoo even sent them money without requesting any future repayment. Champo wrote back expressing his thanks for the donation, while Nalkul remained sullen over recieving charity. (Noah's thoughts on the matter were never voiced.)

A small community sprang up on Koji Island, largely supplied and supported by Chiepoo's shop. Eventually a bronze statue of Koji and Chiepoo was erected outside the shop. It became a popular tourist attraction for those travelers who passed through this part of the sea and Chiepoo had his most famous portrait painted in front of it. The painting by the young Salla of Porteno, who was introduced to Chiepoo through Keneth, hung over Chiepoo's desk in his opulent headquarters. Despite her youth, Salla was skilled, bringing to Chiepoo's yellow eyes a certain gleam that he felt captured his adventurous spirit.

Keneth, who had become accquainted with the girl when they were fellow passengers on a ship to Nirva Island, was happy to have done something for his old friend. He too had been painted by Salla, looking out over the sunset sea. Chiepoo thought the look suited Keneth well. It made him appear to be a seasoned warrior, remembering past battles and old friends.
