17. I do not bite my thumb at you, sir

The taste of blood and metal was not savory to most, but Edward Elric liked it.
Biting his lip, chewing on an automail finger, licking a small cut clean.

He supposed this made him some kind of sadist. Not really, but almost.

The was a snap of a temper as Edward bit down on his right thumbnail again, teeth clacking against metal.

"Fullmetal! Will you stop that!"

His wanderlust filled eyes focused on the concerned elder man, the one who had modeled himself as a father for them; as someone who loved them, him and his brother, even if they had scorned equivalent exchange.

The metallic aftertasted lingered as his gaze did before he slowly lowered his right hand, his left remaining static, hovering over the page with it's pen.

"Fine sir." The tang departed his senses as he spoke these words, the taste flooding back as he bit his tongue to salvage that scrap of pain, blood, metal; the saltyness of his blood almost overwhelming.

No, he wasn't a sadist.

He just lived for pain.
