[Nov. 15, 2006][Suikoden] Budehuc 495
Title: Budehuc 495
Day/Theme: Nov. 15, 2006 old maid in the garret
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Thomas, Cecile, Tomo, Tsai, Barts, Fu Su Lu, Esmeralda... This is a weird little story.
Rating: G
I'm trying to write about different Suikoden characters than usual. :)
Thomas lived the rest of his life at Budehuc Castle, diligently loved and protected by his wife Cecile. The shops and stands by the water expanded gradually and, filled with vibrant life, the castle grew. The small, timid man was proud of what he had managed to accomplish. Cecile was too. They had no children, but the castle itelf was like their child.
The forges were fired by a spear-making woman from the Dunan region, advised by her old father. Rumor had it that the pair had even worked with fire spears in the past. Tomo would never confrim nor deny the stories, but gray-haired Tsai rambled excitedlly about his work in the Dunan Unification War while he sharpened his knives for the resident chefs and housewives.
Barts, although he no longer tended Budehuc's fields but had returned to Iksay and married his flush-faced childhood sweetheart, still returned weekly with a cart of fresh produce, notable for the juicy tomatoes. Though Thomas and Cecile tended several garden patchees and Fu Su Lu, a weary old fighter, had taken up farming by the shore, no one's tomatoes could compare to the beauties Barts brought.
Fu Su Lu, who always wore a tiger skin around his shoulders like an old woman's shawl, found his personal specialty in turnips, radishes, and other root vegetables. He worked as hard as he once had fought and made quite a sight with several crates of leafy vegetables hefted onto his shoulder despite his slight limp and gentle stoop.
Budehuc had even acquired Marlintine and Island Nations districts. Harmonian merchantes frequented this as a stop on both overland and oceanic trade routes. And from the highest level of the castle, the proceedings were all observed by one flashy old maid, her hair still dyed quite blond. Esmeralda leaned out the window, looking down on the hustle and bustle, her jewels sparkling in the light. From a distance she seemed like a fairytale princess trapped in a tower. On closer inspection, however, it became clear that she was merely a vain older woman with little to do but drink her imported tea and watch the days go by.
