Rating: PG-ish, for what I guess I'd call the (attempted) eerieness factor

No matter where they travel, the rain is always the same.

Sanzo lays awake in his hotel room and he cannot recall if he's been here before. All these backwater inns looked the same to him. But when the rain comes, he can't see any hotel walls. The storm creates illusions and traps him in memory.  There had been a time in his life without an inn and without a road.

Every flare of lightning casts long shadows but he sees the shapes of monsters creeping in. The sound of rain against the tiled roof are prayer beads dropping against the temple floor. They were a broken strand of pearls, red as blood. Red with blood.

Sanzo keeps no rosary of his own, for he cannot bear the weight of another memory upon his shoulders. The sutra was heavy enough.
