When you asked me to go with you, I did not do so just to leave this cold, gray town behind. I did not join you for the freedeom you offered. I followed, for it was your hand that was offered.
And when I walk the palace corridors and join the ranks of your court, I wish not to be silent and forgotten. I have no interest in being what they ask of me just to remain here. A maid scrubbing the stone floors and washing your good linens is not a trade my hands can easily understand. Girl I may be, there is steel beneath my skin.
Though the crown is not yet in your hands, though no one expects a young princess to understand the worries of the world, you know. You know these things deeply, just as you know me. They say a battle is making its way to this land. You take the washrag from my hand and replace it with a sword. As I ride out to war, I ride out for you, wearing your coat of arms proudly upon my heart.
