Character/Pairing: Nika, Dios, and plenty of talk about Yuiri
Rating: G

She found his persistence a little alarming. Dios was a charming, intelligent man, but Nika was not really sure she had romantic feelings for him. The day she had returned to the Temple he had kissed her. It had been a shock. She really had not know what to say. Despite some wondering about some of the men she encountered on the job, romantically or not, Bishop Sasarai was the man who filled her thoughts. Her affections were devoted to him.

"Wasn't there a woman you met during the war?" Nika asked. She laid down several thick volumes of the teaching of the Aronian-era chuch on top of Sasarai's desk. She frowned disapprovingly at the mess on and surrounding the bishop's desk. He was so disorganized!

"Yes, yes indeed," Dios replied, watching the bishop's assistant make a hopeless attempt at straightening up the office. No matter what Nika did that day, by the end of the week Sasarai was bound to mess it up again.

The blond woman paused her task to look directly at the tall man. She had a feeling he was avoiding the topic. There was no way she was going to let him change the subject to something else. It was time to confront the issue of his heart directly. "Dios," she drummed her fingers on the back of a chair, "She was from the Alma Kinan Clan, right? What was her name?"

Dios nodded, "Yes, Yuiri of the Alma Kinan Clan."

"Sasarai says it was pretty obvious that she liked you," Nika continued. Dios shifted somewhat uncomfortably. "And you know how oblivious Sasarai can be about those sort of things..." she emphasized the idea forcefully. It was not bad to be in control of the situation. Before her temporary departure from the Temple she had been quite skilled at getting Dios into this kind of position, but the months spent at her sister's home, away from her bishop's chief of staff, had dulled this ability. "I want to hear about her," she smiled.

"W-why?" the narrow-eyed man asked.

"Because I'm interested in what sort of woman would fall for you," she laughed, "And because we're friends! You didn't tell me anything about this in your letters!"

Dios looked down at his gloved hands as he tried to describe the elegant Alma Kinan woman. "Yuiri is rather tall, with dark eyes and brown hair. A good leader and very skilled with the crossbow." His face turned a rather amusing shade of tomato red and he trailed off into silence.

Nika turned the chair around and sat down in it backwards, facing her embarrassed companion. "Is that all?"

"What do you mean 'is that all'!" he spluttered, growing more flustered by the moment.

"Aww! Nash and Sasarai were right! You do like her!" she laughed. "I can tell just by the way you're acting! You're remembering how pretty she was and how nice she was to you!" Her blue eyes sparkled and she laughed out loud while Dios sat quietly.

"Stop it, Nika," he begged softly.

"I can't help it!" she chuckled, "The way you act just makes me laugh!" She took a deep breath and wrapped her arms around the back of the chair. "You really should try and see her again."

"How am I supposed to do that?" Dios wondered. "The border isn't exactly friendly right now. It's not like I can just ride off into the Grasslands..." He closed his eyes and shook his head.

"Let's ask Sasarai about it!" Nika suggested, "I bet he could come up with some excuse for them to let you across the border. You know, some kind of spy work like Nash does- or, speaking of Nash- Sasarai could send Nash out to bring her back here to see you! I bet the city would be a real surprise to her!"

"You think he could?" The sudden optimism in Dios' voice was quite clear.

"We'll ask!" she exclaimed and as she left the office he hurried to follow her.
