Neji is enamored with the past, bound by chains of his own design. He pours through long neglected Hyuuga family scrolls and thinks, if only that had been, then this would be so. Wielding his pain like a weapon, he is steadfast and sure, fighting only for what has already been. Sins of the father, he says with bitterness.
Lee has eyes only for the future. Someday, he thinks. Someday this will be and it will be so. He knows nothing of remorse or regret; tomorrow is his only goal. Every blow he lands is a prediction, an affirmation: I will save you, Sakura-san. Everyone. One day.
Standing in between, Tenten looks upon them with only the present in her heart. This is, she says, taking one arm from each. The past is gone and tomorrow may never be. There is only us, there is only this, there is only now.
They want so much to believe her that they cannot bring themselves to let go.
