Hanajima Saki was used to the stares. The stares that followed her every time she left the security of her home. She knew she made people uncomfortable, and she relished it. It was one more thing that deterred human contact. Of course, there were always the ones that had to comment, but they lost resolve when her eyes confronted them, challenging them to take those remarks one-step further.
Uo-chan never understood this bit of her, but that was Uo-chan. She was strong and people knew better then to mess with someone that appeared so capable. They never thought Hanajima was also one to avoid, some days she took their casual cruelty as penance and other days it felt like a heavy weight around her, one she didn’t deserve. This was another thing brass Uo-chan didn’t grasp.
It was days like that, Hanajima went to Tohru. Tohru took everything in, didn’t judge, and just accepted. Being with her was a balm for the soul. Some days Hanajima needed that balm more then she ought to depend on any person. Uo-chan understood that about Tohru at least. There was something about the carefree girl so ready to heal the world that didn’t bring a little something special into those lives she touched.
