"I could walk away," she said, and they both knew the threat was real.

He shrugged. "You'll come back. You'll be too curious not to."

"But, Kisuke --"

"Yes?"

"Why?"

He looked at his dirty, ragged-nailed fingers, steepled in front of him where he lay on the tangled sheets. "Because," he finally said.

"That's all the answer you ever give."

"It was enough answer for you that time before."

"One of these days --"

"I know, I know. Won't it be interesting to find out which one?"

She sighed. It was a lethal noise.

"But," he said, "aren't you curious?"

Hitsugaya would like to make it quite clear (not that anyone will know about it to ask him) that he is certainly not researching the matter for any personal motive. It is a matter of the greater good; the greater necessity; the impersonal worry about others.

Matsumoto will never notice the additional books around the room.

And as he meshes the facts together into a web of ice, coldly logical and flawlessly precise, he cannot help but feel a moment of delight at the elegance of the design.

Self-limitation is for lesser beings, surely. For those who are not dragons.

There is always a deeper level that can be explored. Under the skin are the fascia and muscles, the nerves and veins and arteries; under that, the bones; within the bones, the channels for bone marrow and the traceries of blood vessels, everything that keeps the subject alive. Within the body, the organs; the heart, the brain, the other intricate machineries of physicality. Within the mind, the emotions; anger, hatred, lust, fear. And pain like a tangle of roots through them all.

Kurotsuchi has yet to pinpoint the soul. He is sure that it is only a matter of time.

---

"Why do you want to know, Gin?"

"'m curious. Aren't you?"

"Well, yes, but --"

"But?"

"But not enough to kill it that way."

"It's a wild dog, Rangiku. It'd have bit us. Killed us."

"Yes, so. Let it be. Look, it's crawling away. It's not going to be any more danger."

"Aww. You're too nice, Rangiku-chan."

"Let go of my hair."

"But it's such pretty hair."

"Idiot."

"Well, if you aren't going to distract me --"

"You don't have to --"

"To?"

"To do that."

"But, Rangiku. How'm I going to know what sort of noise it makes otherwise?"

For there to be degradation, or indeed any sort of downward change, depends on perspective. Even God -- no, most of all God -- must dig his hands into the soil in order to bring forth new life. Changed life. Better life.

There is no good or evil in art, merely success or failure.

Similarly to talk of moralities is as pointless as it is stupid.

Knowledge enables one to bend the universe, to make it and yourself what you want them to be. That is what being God is.

Aizen has been seduced by the idea for a long time now.
