"You know, Hajime, sometimes I wish your grandfather's name was marketable - a trademark. That way we could sell it as merchandise. Buttons, maybe, or small pennants bearing his more famous words - or how-to pocket books. (Definitely not CD singles) What profit there was might be a bit of a help to our financial situation."

"Come off it. No one would spend money to buy those. He wasn't an idol or anything. Besides, how many people actually know who he was nowadays?"

"Yes, I'm afraid so. People have very short memories, don't they?"

"Not really. That annoying bespectacled inspector, for one - he still remembers my grandfather."

"We can always write stories about him and have them serialized in a weekly magazine."

"If that's what you have in mind, why not write a story about me instead? I'm still around, and I can be quite interesting."

"Characters who lived in the past have stronger appeal. The readers feel they're shrouded in mystery and the mist of time."

"Huh."

"And also - no offense - I can hardly imagine anyone willing to buy your merchandise."
