[Aug. 26, 2006][original] Do Not Tremble

Title: Do Not Tremble
Day/Theme: Aug. 26, 2006 "Your place in my heart is the whole of my heart."
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Seif, the Holy Mother
Rating: G

Seif was always afraid to look at Messina's Holy Mother. She was tall and thin, of indeterminate age, and her ocean blue eyes had a piercing gaze that seemed to cut through all illusions. As he knelt before her on the cold crystal tile, he shivered as he imagined her eyes sliding over his toussled hair and seeing into his mind...

"Seif," she spoke up, her voice sounding as distant and stern as usual, "Why do tremble before me?"

"Holy Mother," he replied, his words catching in his throat, then spilling out in an awkward jumble, "I, I mean, sometimes when I, I have trouble..." He shook his head, as though to clear his mind, and flushed with embarrassment at the great fool he was making of himself in front of the most revered and respected woman in the country.

"Now, now," she said in return, a trace of warmth making its way into her voice, "It is certainly not as bad as that."

The sound of her soft steps approaching him caused the knight to look up. The Holy Mother stood directly before him, her loose white and blue robes flowing around her like delicate flower petals. Her expression was not severe, but her blue eyes were still cold. Long, smooth locks of blue-violet hair fell over her shoulders and trailed down her back reaching nearly to her waist. He swallowed hard. She was beautiful, but imposing. He wondered if he would feel this way about Christine when she became holy mother, or if the nature of their current relationship would continue to define their interactions in the future regardless of changes in rank.

"Why do you fear me?" she asked, looking him directly in the eye.

"I...I don't know," he answered weakly. It was not entirely true. He thought he had an idea of what about her bothered him so much...

"You need never draw back from me," she assured him cooly, "For I am Holy Mother of all Messina and I care for each and every one of my people. As a Holy Knight you do me a great service, Seif Kelyano. Realize that your place in my heart is the whole of my heart, as is that of all my people."

"Ah, yes, I will remember," he murmured softly.
