Why? For one thing, because it makes people listen when otherwise they wouldn't - nothing gets someone's attention like the possibility of imminent death or dismemberment. Because then you get to see how a person really is.

It's true. Ask Fao - yeah, the guy who plays the piano for orphans and teaches them to pray. You don't see him beating back his opponents with his prayer book, do you?
(While he can do it by way of sound, I doubt that was learned from some passages in a book)
