[Aug. 17, 2006][original] On the way home...
Title: On the way home...
Day/Theme: Aug. 17, 2006 "As for refined love- let others claim it. /May God, instead, give me contentment."
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Seif
Rating: G
--Picking up directly from Aug. 11th's "Looking Down on the Landscape"
Aside from the war, Seif was perfectly happy with his life. He had a permanent home in the White Castle with his adoptive father, the general Father Alywin, he enjoyed the company of his fellow knights, Ran and Li, who had been his friends since childhood, and his lovely patron, Lady Christine, chose to shower him with her golden smiles. For these pleasures he would carry the burden of knighthood. He would not ask for anything else in life. He truly counted himself among the world's most fortunate individuals.
The hillside he was walking across suddenly dropped off, quickly becoming rocky and steep. Not wanting to lead the borrowed mare over the dangerous terrain, he scanned the other slopes looking for a safer path. He spotted one further off to the west and proceeded in that direction.
He wondered if he could make it home fast enough to eat lunch in the White Castle...it seemed unlikely. He would settle for one last meal taken in a tiny village or on a lonely slope and try for dinner in the capital. That seemed a more reasonable assessment of the distance between the knight and his destination.
The cold wind, which had stilled as he inspected the trails, began to pick up once more, ruffling his cloak and tunic and mussing his unruly hair. It came blowing out of the mountains of Ligaia. He preferred the cool, but not chilling, breeze from the sea that often tossed his sandy-brown tresses when he was nearer to home. It was unlikely he would encounter such a draft for many miles yet.
