[Aug. 16, 2006][original] Acting on Another's Ideals

Title: Acting on Another's Ideals
Day/Theme: Aug. 16, 2006 "I go blindly, /As if I am pursuing the beauty of something /Before me but unclear."
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Rowan, Seif, etc.
Rating: PG

Rowan didn't know exactly why he followed. When Sir Seif gave the shout, "Forward! For love of our country!" He just obeyed.

But it wasn't his country. And Sir Seif wasn't his commander. Who knew at that moment where the leaders of the Black Knights might be found. It was just Seif himself, something elusive about his nature that drew Rowan onward. He wanted to witness the true devotion of the knights from Messina. He himself had no such ties to Cambria. He wanted to see where love of their country led, and what light and goodness might follow.

"No," he chided himself quietly. He had no such delusions. The only light and goodness that followed would be the faint glow of the hearts of those three men. And that glow would be quickly snuffed out by the darkness of the world. He was not following to be present at a time of revolution. He was following to be at the side of just one man who had been extraordinarily kind to him.

Besides, if Seif had taught him to waltz, Rowan owed him enough that he should teach Seif a true dance of battle...

It was a feeling he could not entirely grasp. Seif strode fast, his boots cutting through the dead, brown grass, and his purple cloak flying fast out behind him. Rowan's heart fluttered for just a moment. Seif was a more impressive sight than he would believe himself to be. Just slightly after, and a bit to each side came Ran and Li, outfitted, like Seif, in full armor. The white-ish plates gleamed in the winter sun. Less radiant, but equally determined, were Kiralesca, Leila, Ginjo, and Tetsu.

Rowan felt a bit out of place as he trailed at the tail end of the group. His reasons felt less than pure. His realism did not quite match Seif's ideals. He forced out a smile and decided that until they did, he would just pretend.
