[Aug. 4, 2006][Original] Leila and Ligaia
Title: Leila and Ligaia
Day/Theme: Aug. 4, 2006 "Tell him who looks for heaven to run along to hell"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Leila, Rowan, Seif
Rating: PG
"I think they're goin' to call off the hostilities soon," Leila said as she looked over the fortress wall at the camps of the Ligaian troops.
"Why do you think that?" Rowan asked, tipping up the visor of his helmet to get a better look at the situation below. He scanned the mass of men, tents, and horses silently, not catching sight of anything that indicated an immediate withdrawal.
"Because this has been a winter war...It's tiring. And you folks are tough."
"A peace treaty?" Seif piped up hopefully.
"Nah, more likely to be another ceasefire agreement," Leila mused, rubbing the back of her gauntleted hand against her black chainmail. The scraping of metal on metal only managed to rub the notion further into Seif's mind.
"Another ceasefire?" he siged. "Another treaty to be broken in the next twenty years? If not the next four or five?"
"Don't be lettin' General Alywin hear you talkin' like that," Leila replied, "You know, 'if you want peace, prepare for war' and all that."
"Leila?" Seif murmured, "After the war, are you going back to Ligaia?"
"Mm, yeah," the mercenary woman nodded, still staring out at the horizon.
"I don't want to fight you again..." He looked the Knight Hunter up and down, from her boots to her shining gold-colored plate armor and black chainmail to her dark blond ponytail. Leila was a powerful warrior, a tricky thinker, and, actually, underneath her rough and tough facade, a fairly kind woman. Though her profession usually made her one of the Holy Knights' most-feared enemies, the peculiar set of circumstances that made them friends allowed Seif an unusual look at the other point of view...
The average Ligaian seemed to think of the Holy Knights in much the same way Messinans viewed the Knight Hunters- as dangerous killers, an institution that should not exist within the government. The average Messinan citizen was not regarded as evil, just as somewhat over-zealous religiously. History from both sides told Seif that Ligaia had started this, nearly two hundred years ago, but who began it all no longer mattered. To defeat your enemy, you should try to understand your enemy....But Seif was not sure he was interested in defeating Ligaia...
He wanted peace without war.
He wouldn't get it.
