[Aug. 1, 2006] [Original] Love is Laughter

Title: Love is Laughter
Day/Theme: Aug. 1, 2006 "Disparagers of love, now hear my song"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Sir Seif and Sir Rowan
Rating: PG

Love, Sir Seif had decided, was just one of those things in life you needed to accept as it was. Over the years it had brought him his greatest joys, as well as his deepest wounds. Love had lead Sir Alywin to raise him, love for Christine, Ran, and Li had caused him to fight so bravely for them, love for his country strengthened his resolve in the battles against Ligaia, and his love of Sir Rowan had probably saved his life. This was the same feeling that brought death to the Lady Christine, his fellow Messinan Knights Ran and Li, and Alywin, the man who was like a father to him. The same devotion that had blinded Rowan and brought sorrow to all Messina.

When he mentioned his mixed feelings on the matter to Rowan, the smaller knight shook his head firmly, "Nah, you're mistaken, Seif. Love did all those good things, but none of the bad ones. The only bad thing love did was break your heart when all that happened."

Rowan was very casual about it. He leaned back dangerously far in his wicker chair and smoothed the yellow bandanna on top of his head. The chair wobbled backward a few more inches. Seif stood up and steadied it with one strong hand.

"I see your point," the Messinan knight conceded.

Rowan shrugged, "I never believed you could think any other way, Sir Holy Knight, with your morals carved into your heart..." The blind man trailed off with a chuckle. He leaned forward again and Seif let go of the chair, allowing all four legs to reach the floor once more.

Rowan's subdued chuckling turned into full-fledged laughter as he began to speak further of Seif's moral code, "Oh, I'll never forget the time that you told de Portola why you couldn't lead the attack on Sunday morning..." Laughs quickly overwhelmed the words. Rowan shook from his boots to his bandanna.

Seif smiled and gave a soft sigh, "Was it really that funny that I had to pray for five more minutes before I could go fight?"

"Well, the way you told it to Harold was...and the way he reacted to it was too!" Rowan giggled through the fingers he pressed firmly over his mouth. It was a girlish, high-pitched titter. And like all schoolgirl giggles, it was highly contagious.

Seif laughed too. He laughed at Rowan's story, he laughed at Rowan's laughter, and he laughed just because it felt so good to laugh.

He had the whole rest of his life to love again. And he still had this dear friend.
