They go to sea, of course; the oddities, the freaks, the strangers, the ones tainted by a Devil Fruit, the people who just don't fit in, good riddance to them.
They're a ribbon woven round the world, bright against the darkness of the eternal ocean, a rope thrown from island to island that binds them all together.
They come back from the sea, but never forever, never to stay; once the sea has them, she keeps them.
It's better that way, the shore-dwellers say, and they try to ignore the yearning each time the sea throws strangeness on their beaches.
