It was summer, and Marshal Tenpou had decamped (along with part of his library) onto the lawn outside.
General Kenren attempted a frontal assault, but was defeated by bulwarks of wine jugs and cigarettes, and surrendered with honour.
Konzen Douji sneered from the superior position of a window, but was sold out by the secret agent in his camp (Gokuu) in return for buns and peaches, and was dragged down to join the picnic, still complaining.
Goujun, Dragon King of the Western Ocean, was not present.
"Where is he?" Kenren asked.
"England," Tenpou answered. "Apparently there's a cricket match on."
