Among the many things that Rukia hasn't told Ichigo are the details of the long fall from soul to Hollow.
Once the Hollow has eaten out its own heart and killed everyone whom it once cared about, it doesn't want to remember. It's much easier for it to be inhuman, and to call itself something like Grand Fisher.
They rarely look human.
The Arrankar surprise her when she sees them. Do you remember what you once were? she wants to ask them. Are these human bodies familiar to you? Or are they as strange now as the masks once were?
