Watanuki's afternoon at Yuuko began when he arrived at the shop and found her too busy playing with a Rubix's Cube to order him around. Much. Just for him to bring her more sake than usual to 'help her solve the puzzle', Watanuki refused to comment otherwise. He was bringing Yuuko her tenth bottle of sake when a customer walked into the shop, though it looked more like silvery human shaped mists that solidified as it walked into the room.
"He's dead," Watanuki said aloud in surprise as he watched a blood drenched man walked into the room calling for something. Someone.
"Yes," Yuuko replied as if dead men walks into her shop everyday, "perhaps he have a last wish." She put down the Rubix's Cube in favor for her pipe and took a drag.
"But he's dead," Watanuki protested as if that would cause the spirit to disappear from the shop.
"If the two of you don't mind," Lionel interrupted with perfect if somewhat rusty Japanese, "I do understand what you're saying." Watanuki had the grace to blush with embarrassement. "Now that we've gotten the fact I'm dead out of the way Miss?"
"Wish Merchant," Yuuko replied helpfully, then smirked at the level stare Lionel gave her.
"Wish Merchant," Lionel continued carefully. "A price for a wish."
"That is the rule," Yuuko said not bothering to hide her amusement.
"I suppose bringing me back to life, changing the past or killing someone is not possible."
"Only if you're willing to pay for it," Yuuko said seriously, "dead man."
Lionel snorted, then laughed with a hysteric tinged to it.
Yuuko waited as Lionel thought of all the implications in what being dead meant.
"Lex," Lionel rasped out at last.
"What about your son?" Yuuko asked, the smirk back on her lips.
"The wish is for him," he said slowly.
Yuuko smiled lazily.
Lionel thought about the wish in what seems to be a long time. "Finding happiness then," he said at last.
"Happiness Mr. Luthor?"
"Dictionary definition," when he spied the smile on the Wish Merchant's lips. Lionel paused. "Oxford."
"Happiness Mr. Luthor?" Yuuko asked again with genuine interest this time.
"Lex can get whatever else he wants himself," he said with no small pride. "I don't think I have to explain my reasons."
Yuuko nodded in understanding, "and what do you intend to pay for your son to find happiness?"
This time, it's Lionel's turn to smirk as he tapped the side of his head with a finger. "Information, knowledge about kryptonite."
"All of it?"
"All of it."
Yuuko smiled and accepted the price, then picked up the all but forgotten Rubix's Cube, a couple of twists and the puzzle was solved. It glowed and Lionel watched his life rewind as everything he knows about kryptonite stripped from his mind into the puzzle. Familiar scenes raced across his mind as he went back, back to the day it all started, until Lionel was left with a clear, but half understood memory of him with a young Lex in his arms as he raced towards the road. He started shuddering and fell to his knees as his mind tried to piece together his fragmented memories.
"Rest now," Yuuko whispered to Lionel, the spirit gave one last shudder and was gone.
"Who was that?" Watanuki asked, after Lionel disappeared.
Yuuko gave Watanuki a faint smile."The father of half of something sad. Now, what's for dinner?" As the scent of burnt food drifted in from the kitchen.
