Treize’s fingers flew over the console, the low whine of the Tallgeese II’s engines waking to life in a comforting roar.
Despite his climb up into a position of command, even with the setbacks he encountered, the strategy meetings, the plans, the designs, future, his future, even moving the chess pieces in a spectacular life sized game …
…there was nothing that ever brought a thrill to him like sitting in the cockpit of a mobile suit. Mobile suits represented man’s fighting nature, the beauty of battle as an extension of his desire.
Like sitting in a cocoon, a war waged and fought in blood and sweat, just on the other side of a thin metal skin. It was all coming to one final confrontation, one beautiful culmination of man and machine, fighting their very natures to attain their desires.
Everything he worked for, planned, meticulously laid out was about to come to a head as he lead the Earth Nation forces against Libra. And against someone whom he still considered friend, even if the feeling didn’t appear to be mutual.
Deep down, he knew.
Impatience drove Zechs now, led him. He was reacting instead of acting. Although, his intentions were decisive and this made him a formidable opponent.
There was only one path for Treize. He no longer needed the ZERO system to show him, it was illuminated before him, as clear as a spring sky.
He once thought the world was his. His future was very different now.
Lifting off and easing Tallgeese to the front of the Earth Nation forces, Treize flew straight and true, his task before him. There were still a few moves to make before the king was checkmated but it would require the sacrifice of a queen.
A price willingly paid in blood.
