It was only after she was certain that Byakuya had left the house that Rukia opened the doors to look at the picture of her sister.

Silence. No servants close enough to hear.

"I hate you," she said quietly. "Why did you do it? I wouldn't have left you."

Hisana smiled delicately at her.

"You chose him over me. Well. It doesn't matter now. I love him better than you. I --" She choked, and shut the doors to bar her sister's calm gaze.

She felt as though her forehead should be marked scarlet with the shame of it.
