[may 17] [naruto] the eyes of aether
Title: The Eyes of Aether
Date/Theme: may 17 | the coldest eyes and the cruellest hands
Series: Naruto
Characters: Sakura, Naruto (hints to another char)
Rating: PG
Notes: bleeeh.. Haven't written in a while. Don't like this, but it's something. Title: Aether is the greek god of "upper sky." Nyx (goddess of night) might actually be the one to bring stars into the sky, but from what I read she just brings the dark veil of night, so I figured I'd put Aether's eyes as the "stars" through the veil.
"They say that those who run fast will stumble," Sakura says to Naruto, solemnly. His head is in her lap and her back is against a tree, and she's trying to ignore how the bark stabs into her spine. She's trying to ignore how much it reminds her of a kunai. And she's trying not to allow herself to acknowledge that the person who did it, in some sort of parallel dimension, might be beside them both at this moment under the sky.
"...the stars look nice tonight," Naruto says. He doesn't want to talk about this now, not again. He's sorry for everything that's happened and he's sorry he couldn't stop it all. He's sorry that he has to really process what he's going to say to her, for fear that something he says will trigger her grief.
He's unlucky this time (again), because as soon as he responds Sakura trembles, her head turned up to the stars above.
"They're cold," she whimpers, and the wind is rough when it blasts through their bodies, whispering something she can hear that he can't.
