Corwin has come back from presumed death with a sheaf of stupidity; thoughts about trust, family, whatever.
At first she merely notes this down as something which will make him easier to manipulate. Later on she's prepared to concede that there may be some use to it, in a prisoner's dilemma, mutual reliance sort of way.
He actually seems to hope that circumstances can change; to dream of finding a way outside patterns and portraits.
Maybe this is something else he's learned in his centuries of exile.
Well. It would be nice to think he hadn't completely wasted his time.
