[April 20th] [The Three Musketeers] All You Can Do Is Not Care

Title: All You Can Do Is Not Care
Day/Theme: into every young man's bedroom you gave it up
Series: The Three Musketeers
Characters: Hmmm... sort of pre-Athos?
Rating: PG

Among the French nobility in the time of Louis XVIII, adultery is practically a way of life. Oh, the men have always assumed the privilege of keeping mistresses if they so choose, of tumbling serving girls and farmer's daughters - whether they will it or not - but in recent generations the practice has spread to the ladies as well. The court is one long dance of butterflies, every one flitting from one flower to the next, with implausible deniability offered by thin masks and thinner excuses.

That is one dance I cannot fit into. Not because I do not know the steps, the courtesies, and my mirror informs me my face is not offensive. No, the lack is in my heart. A different brand of romanticism, if you will. I do not want a dozen women who will mean nothing to me - or one jaded one whom I will look at and wonder not if, but who.

Which is one of many reasons why Anne is my perfect bride.
