Alexandria ignores declarations of compassion every time he talks to her. Every moment his arms slink around her shoulders, she pushes him off her. His lips earnestly try and touch her skin but her scratches and punches stop him. She doesn't know if his love for her is real; she wonders if he's playing with her heart like the men her parents told her about. She tells him that she won't lose; the confused look on his face when she says her doesn't ease her mind.
Alexandria doesn't want to fall in love with someone who would hurt her, but in the end, it seems she has done the exact thing she fears.
