[March 12] [Bleach] Not Merely What Their Fathers Had

Title: Not Merely What Their Fathers Had
Day/Theme: March 12: Eternity's a five year plan
Series: Bleach
Character/Pairing: Urahara, Yoruichi
Rating: PG

When he came to the human world with a stolen artificial body he created himself, he knew it would not hold long.

He scoured the human world for creatures who lived in human's nightmares and dark imaginations. Shinigamis knew they existed, and shunned them - the undead and the semi-humans were beyond their call of duty, the tarnished souls never theirs to safeguard.

He found what he was looking for in a harbor city, teeming with people from strange lands and even stranger beings. The ones he found had sailed away from their homeland in search of new blood, bringing along their precious opium and their addiction to it. They were filthy, paranoid creatures living in the darkened, smoked-filled dens and back alleys, feeding on their fellow addicts.

He charmed them with his easy manners and hints of power. Make me immortal in this world, he said, and I will give you sunlight, and we shall not grow old nor perish. Minds clouded by drugs, they let their greed answer.

Of course she had to object to drinking blood. One night she came to him, a witch's familiar, unmistakably as feline as her shinigami self. Now they were ready; immortal as ever, stronger than ever.

Then they waited.

END.

Note:
Title is stolen from Aristotle.
Backdrop of San Francisco's Chinatown in 1880s thanks to, oddly enough, a book on ghosts and spirits of Singapore I happened to be stuck reading one rainy afternoon.
Kubo better not disapppoint with Urahara backstory.
