"It's going to be the Zhong Yuan festival in a few days." Zhang Wuji opened the window and looked out. The moon hung pale and gibbous in the sky. "I always remember my mother on that particular date."

Zhao Min put down her knitting on the table. When he turned to her, her eyes were glinting merrily. "Master Zhang is such a pious son. I'll pray for your mother with you if you don't mind. But surely you don't think she's in the depths of hell and fighting for food with other hungry ghosts?"

"Well, she did use to do evil things, way before I was born, like murdering everyone in the Dragon Gate Delivery Agency...,"

"And so you pray for her sins to be absolved. She's very lucky, to have you for a son."

He smiled. "Would you rather our children take after me, then, so they will be sure to pray for you after you die?"

"How mean! I pray for my late mother too, you know." Returning his smile, Zhao Min chose a spool of thread from the sewing basket. "Besides, our children will have to wait for years and years before they can begin to try saving me from the hell I know you think I deserve. I plan to live on until they're much older than I am now, and see that the boys don't fall into the clutches of scheming women."

Wuji had to laugh. "Do you know how funny you are?"

"I take it Miss Zhou doesn't amuse you as much, which is why you married me, for which I might have to be thankful to her. But do take note of my words - I seriously intend to look after our children well into their own adulthood. You just make sure we don't run into secret powerful weapons or something similar."
