"Altessa, what are you doing?"

Altessa quickly spun around to face her brother, Prince Bright. Bright raised an eyebrow in amusement as he saw Altessa's arms bathed in a variety of stoned bracelets, and her neck dangling with so many necklaces that her front looked like an ocean of gold. Her fingers were covered in diamond rings, and her ears sported enough earrings to make her ears fall off the sides of her head.

"Well?"

Altessa yelped in response, thinking of a way to convince her brother that she was not wearing her mother's jewelry. She was not wearing the oh, so precious stones that her mother forbade anyone to touch, be it her servants or even her husband. She was not betraying her mother by wearing her jewelry without consent.

"Ah, Onii-sama,"Altessa choked, sputtering on her own words. She could hear the last of her voice fade away as Bright stared at her.

The strong reprimanding voice came out from Bright. "Are you wearing Hahaue's jewelry? You know better than that, Altessa!"

Altessa took a step back, whimpering,"Please don't tell, Onii-sama."

Bright sighed and replied,"Even if I didn't, she'll find out anyway."

Altessa groaned slightly. Was he going to make her tell the truth? No, Bright rarely did that; instead he'd make her feel guilty so she had to tell the truth. It was that special power of Bright's that compelled Altessa to do the "right thing."

The boy ignored Altessa's sigh and continued, but rather than making Altessa feel ashamed, he told another fact about their mother. "She inspects her jewelry every day. If she found something misplaced, she would throw a fit. Hahaue's as crafty and tricky as a fox, so there's no doubt she'll find out and find the culprit as well." He turned to Altessa. "Why were you playing with her jewelry, anyway?"

To Altessa's surprise, Bright's facial expression viewed a light of sympathy instead of a gloomy face of shame. Altessa, encouraged to tell the truth, stretched a bracelet-covered arm towards him, showing him the variety of colors sparkling from wrist to forearm. "I like her jewelry. Sometimes when I wear them I feel beautiful just like Okaa-sama is. I feel more grown-up that way and pretend that I was the queen. She never shows me her jewelry anymore because she thinks I'll steal them, but that's not true. I like her jewels, and I'll wait until she finally gives me one of them on my birthday like she promised."

Bright pondered this a moment, nodding. He dropped his arms and grinned. "I believe you. I'm glad you decided to tell me this, and it wouldn't be like you to break a promise." He grabbed a bracelet and simply tugged. "Let's get these off before Hahaue sees."

Altessa was shocked at how her brother was going to drop the situation, but her feelings changed from surprise into satisfaction as she agreed to remove all traces of her mother's jewelry on her. "Okay, Onii-sama."

Together, the two gently took off rings and pins, securing all of them safely in their designated places in Camellia's jewelry box. Bright carefully made sure that they were in the right places, and Altessa made sure that they were in the right position. With all of that done, they closed the box and locked it, placing the key back in where Altessa found it.

The next time Queen Camellia checked her jewelry, she saw that all of her pieces were there, and none were "missing." She did find it odd at how her brooch moved up 5 inches from where it originally had been when she left it.
